THE mother of South Tyneside X Factor star Lola Saunders has told of her joy after her daughter made it through to the next round of the hit series.
Lola, of East Boldon, impressed the talent show’s judges with her rendition of Sam Smith’s Stay With Me on Saturday night after she was brought back as a wild card.
Now mum Tina is hoping the borough will get behind the 20-year-old and that she can go all the way to the finals.
Tina, who travelled down to London with her husband Wes and other family members to watch the show, said: “We’re so just relieved and delighted that Lola’s nerves held and the public voted to keep her in.
“It was a horrible experience on Sunday waiting in the audience to see if she made it through. We just hope everyone will vote for her to keep her in the competition.”
In recent weeks, audiences have watched as Lola, a worker at Latimer’s Seafood Deli, in Whitburn, battled nerves during the earlier stages of the competition
Tina hopes her daughter will deliver another stellar performance on this Saturday’s 1980s-themed show.
She said: “Lola’s never had the biggest of repertoires. She’s always had her few songs she likes to sing, so having to fit in with a theme will be different.
“She will have to work with the vocal coaches this week, and we’ll have to wait and see, really. Lola’s very relaxed at the moment. She doesn’t seem too fazed. She’s taking it all in her stride.
“The X Factor is something that Lola’s always watched even as a child, and now for her to be on the live shows is amazing.”
