TRANSPORT chiefs are facing calls to reconsider planned cuts to services.

MP Bridget Phillipson, pictured, has written to Go North East’s managing director Kevin Carr asking him to reconsider proposals, which would affect routes across her Sunderland south and Houghton constituency.

She has asked the firm to publish figures which show how much profit it makes on each route in addition to how many people depend and use the services to be altered.

These include the 2A, 2C, 20/20X, 33, 35/35A, 38, 39, 42, 71, 78, 203, X21, X35, and X36/X37.

Ms Phillipson said: “Go North East has proven the need for councillors on the Integrated Transport Authority to support a Quality Contract Scheme when they meet in September.

“The planned cuts to local bus services will disrupt the journeys of hundreds of local people, many of whom have not had a chance to make their concerns known.

“Local residents have told me past consultations by bus companies have felt like a foregone conclusion and their views are not listened to.

“I hope this time it’s different.”
