Plans for new Sunderland tattoo shop get green light

Earlier this year, ‘change of use’ plans were submitted to Sunderland City Council for 37 Coverley Road, in the Hylton Castle area.

Previous uses of the building included a retail space and more recently, a community workshop.

The new plans, approved by council officers this month, will see a tattoo parlour open in the area offering services on an ‘appointment only’ basis.

Opening hours will be 10am to 5pm, seven days a week, with the unit split into three sections including a tattoo studio, storage area and waste area.

Officers concluded the business would not cause any “demonstrable harm” to neighbours due to existing businesses operating in the area and the shop’s distance to residential properities.

A planning report adds a single secured wheelie bin would be installed to store clinical waste which would remain “inaccessible to the public”.

The shop will be run by applicant David Hepburn, of Coverley Road, and would not employ any additional staff.

Development on the site must take place within three years of planning permission being granted.
