A PIT disaster’s anniversary is to be marked with music.
The explosion at Seaham Colliery in September 1880 killed 164 miners.
Now the tragedy is to be recognised with a musical called She’s Fired, to be staged at Sedgefield Folk Festival on August 30.
The piece began as a monologue by ex-blacksmith pitman Bob Lowery, from Seaham.
He decided to put his words on to a CD and find music to accompany it, teaming up with John Wrightson, from Murton, after they were introduced by a friend.
Bob said: “The play is based on the Seaham disaster, but it is also based loosely on the people I knew when I worked at the pit and my family.”
