Three birds have been killed when a fire ripped through a pigeon cree in Sunderland.
Firefighters were called to the site in Easington Street at 7.20pm, yesterday, to reports of a blaze.
When crews arrived they found a number of crees ablaze.
A total of 20 pigeons were saved, however, three birds died in the fire.
An investigation has been launched by both the fire service and the police to the cause of the blaze.
Watchmanager Kevin Burns said: "The firefighters worked really hard in what was arduous conditions to protect the birds and to fight the fire, as the building is in quite a hazardous position as it's build on the bankside of the river.
"As yet, we are not sure of the cause of the fire adn an investigation has been launched."
