A DRIVER was taken to hospital after a two-car collision closed a busy road.
Emergency services were called to Sedgeletch Road, in Fence Houses, after a crash involving a Renault Megane and Fiat Punto.
The road was closed for about an hour while firefighters cut the driver of the Megane from his car.
He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital
Onlooker Andrew Wood, 32, of Fence Houses, said: “It looked as if two cars had come out of the junction and hit each other.
“The whole road was cordoned off for a while and there was a lot of commotion.”
The collision happened at about 11am yesterday.
