Peterlee Sunday League: Turn up for the books as Stephen makes point for Murton Colliery at leaders Dawdon

Stephen Turner notched for fourth-bottom Colliery, with Nathan Burrell on target for the Welfare, whose star man was Marc Ruddick.

John Hutton stood out for fired-up Murton as they became only the second team to deny Dawdon all three points this term and kept them clear of trouble at the bottom of the table.

The defending champions are six points clear of closest challengers Horden CW Supporters, the only other team to force a draw against them so far. Both sides have four matches to play.

Two goals apiece from man of the match Chris Freeman and Karl Garside steered Peterlee Helford United to a convincing 7-1 away success against Easington CIU.

Gary Shaw, Keith Bailey and Daryl Evans added to the tally, with star man Simon Todd notching CIU’s consolation.

Victory took Helford above Peterlee Catholic Club into third place, while CIU are now three points adrift in second-bottom spot.

Horden Cricket Club enhanced their Second Division title ambitions by outgunning Hetton Fox and Hounds 5-2.

Shaun Bentley, Dan Gething, man of the match Michael Ridley, Ali Shah and Dan Sennett all netted for the cricketers, who are now two points behind leaders Seaham Parkside, still with a game in hand.

Horden also have a vastly superior goal difference, which could prove pivotal in the title race.

Parkside’s last match is a trip to Horden in what should be a decider. The cricketers won 5-1 away to their rivals earlier this season.

Hat-tricks from Michael Coates and star man Connor Wilson guided Peterlee Hearts home 7-0 in a one-sided triumph at New Seaham Westlea.

Ryan Fenwick also netted.

Acre Rigg SC climbed to third place in the table on the back of a 4-0 home victory against Grangetown WMC.

Goals from Jamie Richardson, Ian Archer, Chris Collings and sub Scott Jackson saw off the visitors, whose top man was Chris Liddle.

Graeme Ashcroft was outstanding for Rigg.

Michael Bayles notched for Peterlee Central Club as they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sherburn United.

Star man Barry Appleton and substitute Richard Klitzke struck as bottom club Sherburn secured only their second league win. Central, whose man of the match was Sean Pratt, are only two points better off than Sherburn.

In the First Division Peterlee Oaklands bounced back to winning ways when they hammered bottom club Wingate Grange 7-1.

That was the perfect response to a 5-3 defeat to Easington Welfare the previous week.

Karl Arkwright led the way with a brace, backed by further goals from Tom Gillings, Liam Owen, star man Liam Atchison and subs Lee Cleary and Philip Robinson.

Victory took Oaklands three points clear of Easington Southside at the top, albeit having now played a game more.

Michael Lee notched Grange’s consolation goal, with Mark Daley their top performer.

Strikes from Ian Rickaby and Jordan Williams were not enough to give third-top Easington Welfare all three points, as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Wingate Plough Inn.

They are six points behind second-top Southside with two matches in hand.

Man of the match Jack Hart and Joe Coulson netted for Plough, who had Daniel Gorton red-carded.
