Peterlee Sunday League: Dawdon edge out First Division fliers in penalty shoot-out to reach cup semis

Up against impressive First Division high-fliers Easington CIU, who have lost just one league game all season, the sides could not be separated in a close-fought 1-1 draw.

Liam Adamson netted for CIU, with Kyle Middleton on target for Dawdon before the Green Drive men progressed 3-2 on penalties. Liam Hodgson starred for Dawdon, with Dan Sanders top man for CIU.

Peterlee Catholic Club had a more comfortable passage into the semi-finals, thanks to a 4-0 win over Seaham The Knack,

Two goals apiece from Peter Crawford and David Paul did the damage. Michael Williams was Knack’s star man, with Jamie Gray best for Catholic.

In midweek, Easington Southside lost 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Shotton Comrades.

Lee Westgarth and Brett Carr struck for Comrades, with Mick Taylor hitting both for Southside.

Substitute Stuart Softley was the hero for Easington Southside when he fired in a double in their 3-0 defeat of Wingate Grange to reach the third round of the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup.

Martin Dunn also struck in a comfortable success, with Michael Armstrong star man. Adam Benton stood out for Grange.

In the only Premier Division match last weekend, a brace from sub Stephen Turner set Murton Colliery Inn up for a fine 4-2 victory over second-bottom Shotton Comrades.

Hayden Pace and man of the match Chris Hughes also notched, with Lee Westgarth and Warren French replying for Comrades. Andrew Forrest shone for Shotton.

In midweek, Murton were pipped 3-2 at Horden CW Supporters, with Liam Appleby and Chris Hughes replying to strikes from Jack Pounder, Rob Taylor and Reece Kenney.

Peterlee Catholic Club routed Easington Colliery Club Mechanics 9-0, with David Paul’s hat-trick backed by Peter Crawford (2), Alan Smith (2), Jamie Gray and Ryan Brymer. Keeper Daniel Brenkley stood out for Mechanics.

Peterlee Helford United won 3-1 at Easington Lane WMC, with Scott Henderson replying to strikes from Shaun Ross, Dan Johnson and Gary Shaw. Callum Haswell was Lane’s top performer.

Seaham Marlborough are clear at the top in Division One after a Ryan Martin-inspired 6-1 thrashing of Horden Cricket Club.

Martin hit five of his side’s six goals in the romp, with Niall Cowell also on target.

Michael Ridley replied with a consolation goal for the cricketers.

Goals from Mark Hartley, Michael Kennedy and Matthew Johnson were not enough for South Hetton Cricket Club to salvage anything from their home clash with Wingate Howden, who won 4-3.

Liam Watson starred in vain for South Hetton.

In midweek, South Hetton ran out 4-1 winners at Wingate Howden, thanks to Michael Kennedy (2), Robert Talbot and Corey Jarvis, with Craig Fletcher star man.

Seaham Marlborough won 5-2 at Trimdon Royal Oaks, with Ryan Martin’s treble backed by Chris Dormant and Lewis Wilkinson.

Josh Home-Jackson’s hat-trick helped Easington CIU outgun Seaham The Knack 6-0, supported by Ryan Barrow, Liam Adams and James Sanders.

In the Second Division, Peterlee Hearts maintained their promotion aspirations with a 5-0 drubbing of Hetton Lyons.

A brace from substitute Ryan Fenwick was backed up by efforts from Steven Freeman, Jared Jones and Anthony Hall.

Paul Griffith starred for Hearts, with Michael Brunning top man for Lyons.

Sherburn United made double figures in beating Acre Rigg SC 10-5 in an epic goal-fest.

United were inspired by a five-timer from Andrew Elliott, while James Raine, Matt Griffiths, Aaron Hinds, Lewis Lumley and substitute Thomas Clark also got in on the act.

John Brown (2), Jamie Richardson, Ian Archer and Greg O’Brien netted for Celtic.

Goals from Brennan Yuill and Josh Elliott paved the way for New Seaham Westlea to take all three points as they beat Peterlee Central Club 2-0.

Sheikh Hussain stood out for Westlea, with keeper Lawrence Swallow impressing for the hosts.

In midweek, New Seaham Westlea drew 1-1 with Easington Leather Cap, with Brennan Yuill scoring and Adam Bell starring. Connor Williams was Cap’s top man.

Hetton Lyons won 2-1 at Acre Rigg SC, thanks to Michael Brunning and Brad Bowman, with John Brown responding. Jack McBeth shone.
