TAKE That will be joined by special guests Pet Shop Boys when their tour kicks off in Sunderland.

The record-breaking act has announced it will be warming up the Stadium of Light crowd next month.

Neil Tennant, who is from North Shields, and Chris Lowe, are the most successful duo in UK music history, racking up more than 50 million record sales since 1981.

The pair’s hits include West End Girls, It’s A Sin, Go West and What Have I Done to Deserve This?

With seven platinum, two gold and four silver albums in the UK alone, the Pet Shop Boys say they are delighted to be supporting another successful British band.

“We are delighted to accept Take That’s invitation to be part of their Progress show and tour, which is undoubtedly going to be one of the most exciting events of 2011,” a statement from the band said.

“We look forward to every night being a huge celebration of pop music.”

Pet Shop Boys scooped an Outstanding Contribution To Music award at the Brits in 2009.

The duo’s ballet, The Most Incredible Thing, recently sold out a two-week season at Sadler’s Wells in London.

The Progress Live tour kicks off at the Stadium of Light on May 27.

It will also be playing in Sunderland on May 28, 30 and 31.

Standard tickets were snapped up within hours but there are still some VIP seats still available for May 27 and 28, starting from £130.
