Young sisters arrange bike ride to raise money for elderly residents and hospital staff

Myla and Lana did 100 laps around their area to raise money.

Myla Donoghue, 7 and Lana Donoghue, 6 arranged the sponsored bike ride around the streets where they live and used the money to buy treats such as biscuits, sweets, tissue, candles and face masks for the residents of Springtide Cove and for staff at Sunderland General Hospital.

The girls agreed a circuit where they completed 100 laps on their bikes to raise money to treat the residents and staff.

The sisters who attend Dame Dorothy Primary School in Monkwearmouth, went along with staff from school to the flats to hand over their goods to the grateful staff and residents.

Lana Donoghue raised money with her sister by riding their bikes for charity.

Lily, a resident of Springtide Cove said: “I am thrilled to bits, it’s very thoughtful of them.”

Hilda, another resident said: “I was quite shocked to see what the girls had done for us and I am grateful for the lovely thought.”

Iain Williamson, Headteacher at Dame Dorothy Primary School said: "Dame Dorothy Primary school prides itself on being a community centred school that promotes the needs of others both far away and close to home.

"I am so proud of Myla and Lana that despite the ongoing restrictions they still put the needs and well-being of others first.
