Washington Volunteers raise £1,000 for causes close to their hearts
The Washington Volunteers group, who have been supporting the community since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in March, held the charity day to raise funds for special school Barbara Priestman Academy and the charity Starlight Foundation, raising £1,100.
At the start of the pandemic, the group were supporting the vulnerable and elderly in the community with food packages and support, but have since given themselves the challenge of raising a back to back £10,000 for various charities and causes.

Hide AdThe charity day was to raise funds for a sensory room at Barbara Priestman Academy and the Starlight Foundation, which supports families of children going through serious illnesses.
Kimberly Allison, who is a member of the group said: “We’ve been trying to support the local community the best we can during difficult times.
“I can’t speak for anyone else but for me I’ve done this because furlough has given me the opportunity to give something back as I know what it’s like to be in such a place that all you need is someone to say ‘I’ve got you!’.”
The event, which adhered to social distancing rules, featured tombolas, raffles, children’s games, food stalls, Marvel superheroes and a local singer with all money raised going to the two causes.

Hide AdA number of local businesses also got involved to donate money, including Nisa Local Barmston, Miss Tina’s Coffee House, JK Bouncy Castles and ‘The Kebabist’ Food Van.
