Warning from Seaham Vets after dog injured with fish hook

The dog was brought into Seaham Vets, which prompted a warning to families about getting treatment for their injured animals.

Sue Turner, practice manager, said: “If an animal has been injured by a fish hook you need to get them to the vets to get it removed.“You can’t pull it out – you have to pull it all the way through because of the barbs to avoid further injury.

They need to be sedated before the hook can be removed otherwise more treatment could be required.”

An alert on the Seaham Vets Facebook page added: “Please be extra vigilant when walking down Seaham beach for fish hooks.

“They can cause nasty injuries, so please pay extra attention when your dog is sniffing around the ground.”
