Damian Mills, from Washington, was a successful tattoo artist, with his work featured in magazines across the country until eight years ago when he was involved in a car crash.

The 33-year-old did not only lose his sight in the incident. He broke his back, pelvis and ribs, undergoing months of rehabilitation and learning how to walk again.

But he has not let the crash stop him from living his life and he is set to embark on a musical adventure with his future brother-in-law Allen Humes.

He said: “After the crash, it took a few days to realise I had gone blind and I struggled to come to terms with it.

“During my treatment, I was encouraged to go to university to retrain in a different role but there was nothing I wanted to do.

“I’d trained my whole life to be a tattooist.”

He added: “I focused on learning to play guitar and try to make something of myself.

“I started jamming with my future brother-in-law Allen and we created the acoustic duo The Humbled Bones.”

Once the restrictions on pubs have been lifted, the pair hope to begin playing their first gigs.

“I’m nervous and excited at the same time, it has gave me something to focus on,” added Damian.
