Former colleagues Angela Carruthers and Kerri Smith thought up the idea, after Kerri who is the Regional Sales and Marketing Coordinator for the Maria Mallaband Care Group highlighted that she was looking for new ideas for activities that are suitable for residents of care homes.

Angela is the Weddings and Events Manager at the Roker Hotel in Sunderland commented: “Kerri told me the problem and we decided that we would open Let There Be Crumbs only for the residents, carers and their families.”

“The idea was to try and get people out of care homes. The husbands of two ladies who attended had recently passed away. It was the first time they had been out since it happened and was lovely for them to come and enjoy the morning.”

It wasn’t just the coffee and cakes that were a hit with guests, live entertainment from Sunderland based Bojangles Ukes meant that everyone who attended could have a dance and a sing-a-long.

Speaking about how successful the coffee morning had been, Angela said: “The carers and families were asking if we could do the event once a month, we are now planning to see if we can make it possible. Bojangles Ukes have said that they will happily provide the entertainment so hopefully we can get something sorted.”
