Sunderland schoolgirl takes on Amber's Law ambassador role as she works towards dream trip to US competition

A Sunderland youngster is helping to pass on a lifesaving message as she works towards her appearance at a competition in the US.

Quinn Lux Lownie already has a host of titles to her name after taking part in her first beauty pageant aged four.

And she is now working towards her appearance in the final of Miss Galaxy to be held in Chicago next August. She won the UK round after first scooping the North East title.

As the eight-year-old raises funds to get her to the competition, she will be working as an ambassador for Amber's Law.

It was set up by the loved ones of Amber Rose Cliff, from Ashbrooke, who died of cervical cancer aged 25 in 2017.

The campaign calls for a change to the rules for patients aged under 25, ensuring they are given access to cervical screening, particularly if they have symptoms.

Quinn, a pupil at Northern Saints Primary, will champion the cause as she takes on a host of tasks to raise funds for charities.

She is supported by her mum Ashleigh Lownie, 43, who runs Can You Hackett? fitness company.

Together they have already won praise for raising the highest amount of funds in her section of the competition as they pledged cash to the National Autistic Society.

Quinn, who has been backed by photographer Lee-Ann Strong and is looking for sponsors, was invited to take on the role by Amber’s dad Darren.

“When we found out she won, it was absolutely amazing and Quinn had been super excited,” said Ashleigh.

"It’s a really well-respected pageant and to find out we were going to Chicago, we were totally delighted.

"As an ambassador of Amber’s Law, she’ll be meeting hundreds of people as we get ready, so she’ll be able to pass on that important message.

Darren said he was delighted to welcome her on board and added: “She does a lot of work in the charity sector which is amazing for a girl of her age.”
