Sunderland residents praise football fans selling 'mackem' made pies in Spain
A mackem man and his wife say they are living their dream life after setting up a pie shop in Spain and Sunderland residents have praised them for showing their love for the city.
Graham Clark, 59 and his wife Linda Clark, 60, upped sticks to move to warmer climes in Spain 16 years ago to set up a shop selling pork pies, sausage rolls and cherry Bakewell tarts to tourists and locals in Benalmádena.
They had a similar garage business in Spain but it was closed after Graham found a new hobby and a local baker taught him to make the pastries – then, Porky Pies was officially launched.
The couple are Sunderland AFC fanatics and have taken their love for all things Black Cats to their new life in the sun.
The couple’s shop is adorned with the SAFC crest and Graham is well known in the area for his love for the team.
After the couple’s journey featured on Channel 5’s Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun on Thursday February 20, Sunderland residents were been keen to praise them for their love for the city and the football team.
June Humphries said: “Watched the show last night. Good luck to both of them.”
Roslyn Wright Burnikell said: “Fab people, fab pies and meals.”
George Ayre agreed, saying: “Smashing people. Lovely food.”
Neil Foster added that he “watched a few SAFC games in his bar in Arroya.”
Karina Blades commented: “Watching you now. Good show. Miss you both.”
