And it’s all in aid of supporting Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen and trying to keep the people of Sunderland entertained during lockdown.

Brad Wharton, who has worked at Sunderland’s 2 Church Lane for 18 months, has been carrying on the restaurant’s weekly quiz online.

The 21-year-old has already put on a Games of Thrones and a Disney quiz after the Prime Minister closed all pubs, restaurants and bars last month due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Now, inspired by the hit Netflix documentary which has taken quarantine by storm, 2 Church Lane’s next quiz will be based on Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.

The Netflix series follows American big cat owner Joe Exotic, a mulleted, gun-toting polygamist and country western singer who owns an Oklahoma roadside zoo and his rivalry with animal activist and big cat sanctuary owner Carole Baskin.

Now as Brad prepares for the next quiz, which will air on the restaurant’s Facebook page at 8pm on Wednesday, April 8, the team are trying to raise as much money as possible for Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen.

And Brad, who is isolating at home in Sunderland, has decided to don the classic mullet look in the hope people will donate to the worthy cause.

“You’ve got to go all out," Brad told the Echo. “So I’ll be dyeing my hair and shaving the sides.

“It’s for a good cause and hopefully it will encourage people to donate. Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen is still offering help to people during the lockdown.

“We’ll be live streaming the hair cut too at around 4pm tomorrow but I’ll be keeping the Joe Exotic outfit for the quiz.”

In just a few days, a Go Fund Me Page set up for donations has raised more than £100.

One of the owners, Stephen Hunt, said: “The quiz is about bringing people together through Facebook so out customers can chat to one another.

“We’re still delivering meals to the community every evening and from 12pm on the weekends.”
