It’s every parent’s nightmare, children making a mess. This was what Claire Kilmartin faced on the morning of Saturday, February 29 after her three-year-old daughter Sadie decided to try out a new look.

Mum Claire was getting ready to go to playgroup when Sadie decided to giver herself a makeover.

She said: “Sadie told me that she was putting on make-up and washing her hands. When I went to check on her, I saw that she had covered herself with a black permanent marker.

“At first, I tried just using soap and water to get the pen off, but it didn’t work so I then posted the photo of her on a mum’s advice Facebook group for help on how to get it off! I just kept thinking that she looks like a pirate.”

Fellow mums on Facebook recommended washing up liquid and a baby wipe, which worked on her hands but Claire didn’t really want to use it on her lips.

She said: “When we left the house, I had got some of it off, but she still had a bit of a moustache.”

Eventually Claire managed to shift the ink after using some unconventional methods to make sure the marker pen came off. She said: “I kept getting recommendations through the Facebook group, in the end I used baby oil on her skin and hand sanitiser to get it off her lips.”
