It is estimated that power will be restored by about 4pm. It was reported that the cut had been caused by an unexpected problem with an electricity cable in the area. Metro services had been affected but have now resumed between Park Lane and South Hylton in both directions.

A Northern Powergrid spokesperson said that if the problem was not properly identified and resolved by 4pm, then a generator would be supplied to a substation to provide power to the 70 homes.
