Sam Cooper braves the shave for Macmillan Cancer Care, raising more than £1,100 and paying tribute to cancer sufferers

Sam Cooper saw her hair buzzed off at the Wearside Farm pub in Washington, raising more than £1,100 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

The event was set up by the Washington Macmillan Support group and saw Sam say goodbye to her blonde locks, to raise money for those dealing with cancer.

The fundraiser also featured a quiz and raffle, raising a total of 1,146.99.

Speaking about the head shave, Sam said: “It went really well. It was quite nerve wracking and when I could hear the buzz of the razor I just wanted it over and done with, but I was glad to have my family around me in support.”

“I just really hope what I raised makes a difference. That’s what really matters.”

Sam’s husband lost his sister Denise Hamblin to cancer in 1990, which allowed her to see the devastating effect it can on families and played a key role in her decision to brave the shave, wanting to pay tribute to her family.

Sam said her new hair comes with some benefits, including having extra time in bed.

She added: “All the comments have been really positive.”

After setting an initial target of £400, Sam was shocked to see her goal be almost tripled.
