Plumes of smoke billow from scene of fire at Sunderland riverside
Firefighters have been called to the River Wear following reports of a grass blaze on Tuesday, March 17.

Tyne and Wear Fire Service confirmed to the Echo that it was called to reports of a grass fire near the south side of the Northern Spire shortly after 2.30pm on Tuesday.
One appliance was sent to the scene and the incident is ongoing.
Clouds of smoke were visible from the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) while crews tended to the blaze.
