Photographer captures the faces of key workers on the frontline in video tribute

A photographer has captured the faces of people who are on the frontline of the health crisis and keeping the wheels of life moving.

Gemma Lucas, from Seaham, decided to put her professional skills to work by photographing 21 key workers as they grafted.

She has now put the images, which include shopworkers, a paramedic, firefighter and police officer, drivers and delivery workers, together as a video which has been shared far and wide on Facebook.

The video, which is two minutes long, has been seen thousands of times by people online as others share her appreciation.

The 34-year-old asked her five-year-old daughter Amelia to introduce the clips, with her twin brother Jamie Allan, who works at Aldi, and their elder brother John, 36, who works at Eurogarages among those to feature.

Her volunteers have all been given a Superman symbol in their eyes in tribute to the efforts they are putting in to keeping their community supported and moving during the lockdown.

Others to appear are workers from the Dunwell Care Home in Washington, AFS Logistics, Westlea Primary and funeral director Ken Taylor.

Gemma, who works on portraits as part of her work, said: “I just saw a lot of people on Facebook talking about people on the frontline and key workers and I wanted to make something for them.

“The response has been absolutely fantastic.

“It took a bit of time to get everyone’s photo and then put it together.”
