One person sent to hospital following rush hour crash on A1

One person was sent to hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the A1(M) near Washington.

The A1(M) slip road was closed as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the A1(M) southbound near Washington at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 4.

The J64 Washington Southbound entry slip road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident causing traffic delays.

The North East Ambulance has now confirmed that one person was able to take themselves to hospital following the incident.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance service said: “We were called at 6.12pm on Wednesday a road traffic collision involving two cars on the A1 southbound at Washington.

“We sent a double crewed ambulance and one person made their own way to hospital.”

Highways England confirmed that the slip road has since been reopened and that the two vehicles had been recovered safely at around 7.35pm.
