Musician pens moving tribute to NHS in song for health heroes on the coronavirus front line

Derek Buckham, 67, has written and produced the song called Angels in Blue in an effort to raise money for the health service as its staff continue to tackle the outbreak.

The dad-of-two felt compelled to write the song as a tribute to those who are putting their own lives on the line to help those diagnosed with the virus.

Derek, from Washington Village, hopes to raise as much as possible from the charity track, which has now been released on the likes of iTunes and Amazon.

The singer-songwriter has released the song under the name Tokyo Rose, having been a former musician in the band.

Derek has decades of experience in the music industry having started playing gigs from the age of 18.

He said: “This is my tribute to the bravery of our medical staff and carers called Angels in Blue.

“I wrote and produced this song whilst in isolation and it is now available on all the music platforms under Angels in Blue by Tokyo Rose.

“If I manage to sell any I will give the money to charity. I just hope that this song will be bought and sung to our heroes.

“The social media response to the song has been very emotional. Please stay safe.”

And this is not the first time Derek has released a song in honour of those who have put their lives on the line for those they serve.

In November 2019, the artist wrote and produced the song In the Morning We Will Remember Them which paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in conflict.

The song was inspired by a moving visit to the Arlington National Cemetery in America and received international praise after it was released on his Tokyo Rose Facebook page, and YouTube channel Tokyorosebiz.

At the time, Derek said had been been inundated with messages from people around the world and even the band of the Grenadier Guards –the infantry regiment of the British Army.
