Mum's 5am start to make sure daughter gets a Katie the Carrot toy from Aldi

Loveable vegetable characters from Aldi have charmed families up and down the country.

And it was smiles all around for one happy schoolgirl, Maizie Anderson, as she bagged a giant Katie the Carrot to join her toy collection when they hit the shelves this week.

Ten-year-old Maizie, who also got up early in 2018 to buy a Kevin Carrot, also took home a Russell Sprout and Tiny Tom, who have joined the supermarket’s ranks of festive characters.

Mum Ashley said: “We managed to get Katie the Carrot this year. We got up at 5am, got to Aldi at 6.50am and we were about 30th in the queue.

“She got her beloved Katie to go with Kevin from last year.”

They visited Aldi in Gilesgate, Durham, which opened at 8am.
