Mum who was tormented through school inspired to help others struggling with bullies

With the help of a caring community, Stephanie Renwick created a hamper to cheer up a Sunderland schoolgirl who was being targeted by bullies after hearing her story.

The 31-year-old mum contacted the girl’s father and arranged to create a hamper – filled with treats such as hair straighteners and make-up – in a bid to show her there is also kindness in the world.

Having struggled with bullies herself, Stephanie knows just how much it can impact young people and has received a flood of messages asking if she can help support children.

"I saw her story on Facebook and it really stuck with me because I was bullied as a child,” said Stephanie.

"So I decided to message them and offer to maker her a hamper – more to show her that not everyone is a bully.

"I had to leave comprehensive because I just didn’t want to go to school. They were actually beating me up in Year 9 and 10. It was horrible.

"I wanted to show her there’s more good people in the world.

"I had a great response and people started getting in touch to see if I’d do something like this for their child.

"People started donating items or money to help. The support has been amazing.”

Speaking of the happiness the hamper brought his daughter, the Sunderland dad, who will remain anonymous, said: “Stephanie got in touch with me and offered to do a pamper hamper and I initially said no because I didn’t want anyone to be put out but she insisted.

"We were so shocked and my daughter was over the moon. It was almost hard to explain that it was from a stranger who wanted to do a nice thing.

"I can’t believe how much planning and thought has gone into it – it’s a lovely gesture.”
