Motorcyclist fighting for his life after being flown to hospital following serious crash

A motorcyclist was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries following ‘serious’ crash near a garden centre.

Durham Constabulary is now appealing for information following the ‘serious collision’ which involved a motorbike and a car just before 2.30pm on Monday, June 1.

A 37-year-old motorcyclist suffered ‘life-threatening injuries’ in the collision and was flown to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance.

The incident occurred on the A182 at the junction with East Durham Garden Centre, between Easington and South Hetton.

The driver of the car, a 74-year-old man, and his passenger, a 72-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries in the collision.

A force spokeswoman said: “Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw the vehicles being driven beforehand.

“They would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or the lead up to it.”
