Man dies following crash on A19 near Seaham

Police are now appealing for witnesses after a car left the A19 northbound carriageway and came to rest on the grass verge.

Officers are appealing for anyone with any dash cam footage or any motorists who have seen a silver Hyundai hatchback between 6.15pm and 6.45pm on Friday, January 17, between Dalton Park and the A1018 slip road to come forward.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “Sadly the male driver, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary’s collision investigation unit on 101, quoting incident reference 350 of January 17.”
