Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that crews are currently dealing with a fire on Primate Road, said to be at the former Farringdon police station.

Four engines and an aerial ladder platform are at the scene.

Residents in the area are being urged to keep windows closed to protect against smoke.
