How you can show support for the Children's Heart Unit during the coronavirus pandemic

The Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) has launched a campaign called ‘Hearts of Hope’ to help spread love and cheer to youngsters with heart conditions and their families during this difficult time.

CHUF based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, provides lifelong support to youngsters who are born with or develop heart conditions and their families.

It raises vital funds for equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research.

And now the charity is asking people to decorate ‘Hearts of Hope’ and put them in their windows to show their support for heart families and NHS workers.

Charlotte Campbell, director of fundraising and operations at CHUF, said: “CHUF is the only thing at the moment bringing smiles and joy to Heart Heroes and their families who are in hospital, which is why we’re encouraging families to get involved with Hearts of Hope to show that together, as a community, we’re all thinking of those who are most vulnerable.

“We’ve seen lots of Hearts of Hope so far and they all look amazing. It’s so heart-warming to see so many families and individuals getting involved.

“The impact of the pandemic is affecting us all, but together we’re trying to bring hope and joy to our loved ones.”
