Five-year-old Arielle Carrick, from Moorside, Sunderland is bringing cheer to her school friends and neighbours after not being to see them during lockdown.

Arielle, who goes to Benedict Biscop C.E Academy has been creating colourful bird feeders out of recycled plastic bottles.

She and her Mum, Gemma have been hanging around the estate where they live so her friends can find them.

Gemma, 42 has told the Echo about the joy that they have been bringing to the community.

She said: “It all started by just making one for some arts and crafts so Arielle had something to do.

“We put it up in our estate and her friends spotted it, which cheered Arielle up as she is really missing them.

“We then decided that we would make some more and put them in places for people to find them. All her friends have been sending us messages and photos once they find them.”

Gemma added: “Loads of people have been spotting them when they are out walking their dogs.

“I’m really proud of Arielle and I am glad that she has been able to bring some cheer and boost community spirit during these times.”
