This year we watched Durham University student Henry Bird win star baker in the famous tent but was booted off the show in the quarter finals.

While Hartlepool teenager, Vaughan Kelly, made it to the semi-finals of Junior Bake Off and won the hearts of the nation with his positive attitude and kindness in the process.

Applications are now open for the 2020 series – and here’s how to apply:

Follow the rules

There are 22 rules that applicants must follow to be in with a chance of appearing on the show, these include:

- You must be aged 16 or above on 1st January 2020.

- You must be a resident of the UK (including Isle of Man and Channel Islands)

- You must not have any NVQ, BTEC and/or any equivalent professional qualification in baking, cooking, food production, food preparation or catering, unless acquired over 10 years ago.

- You have never been employed as a baker, cook or chef.

Filming dates have not yet been revealed but potential applicants should be available between April and July 2020. From watching the show, it appears the bakers are in the tent every weekend.

What to expect in the application?

A spokesman for Love Productions said: “We’re looking for people with a real passion for baking.

“Don’t worry if you’re not a great writer, just tell us as much as you can about you and your baking.

“We want to hear what you’re good at, but also what you’re not so good at.

“We’re not expecting you to be brilliant at everything; this just helps us to get a clearer idea of what kind of baker you are.”

The team also want to see at least five pictures of your baking and a recent picture of you.

When is the deadline?

If you’re thinking of applying the date to remember is Sunday January 5, 2020 - the application deadline.

A spokesman added: “Only people who have made it to the next round will be contacted by a member of the production team.

“Due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to give individual feedback or deal with individual queries.

“If you have not heard from us by Friday 6th March 2020 then unfortunately your application has not been successful.”
