Competitors can sign up to take part in the Go Tri 300 metre sea swim off Roker Beach to Sunderland Yacht Club, a 6km bike ride and then a 2.5 km run to finish.

A Go Tri Aquathon will also be held after that, which will feature the same distance swim and run.

Chris Nicholas, who runs NXY, said: “We’ve done these type of races four times before and they’ve all gone down really positively.

“A couple of people have done the races this year and have gone on to do longer triathlons and the atmosphere is always really good.
