Competitors can sign up to take part in the Go Tri 300 metre sea swim off Roker Beach to Sunderland Yacht Club, a 6km bike ride and then a 2.5 km run to finish.

A Go Tri Aquathon will also be held after that, which will feature the same distance swim and run.

Both are designed for beginners, people new to the sport or people returning to it after a break, as well as triathletes looking to keep up their training, with relay teams also welcome to sign up alongside individuals.

The event will be staged along the seafront in Roker.

The sessions are being organised by NXY Multi Sports Events and Fausto Coffee cafe, with backing from the yacht club, Sun City Tri and Wearside Triathlon clubs, as well as Waite Accountants.

Chris Nicholas, who runs NXY, said: “We’ve done these type of races four times before and they’ve all gone down really positively.

“A couple of people have done the races this year and have gone on to do longer triathlons and the atmosphere is always really good.

“If you’re thinking, ‘Can I do this’ then yes you can, give it a go.”

Chris Nicholas is helping to organise the event alongside Fausto Coffee, SUnderland Yacht Club, Sun City Tri and Wearside Triathlon clubs and Waites Accountants.
