Fundraising drive for family of much-loved Sunderland nurse Fiona Anderson who died after coronavirus fight

A fundraiser set up in memory of a Sunderland nurse who tragically died following a battle with coronavirus has raised more than £2,000.

Hundreds of tributes have poured in for the much-loved nurse from friends, family and colleagues who have hailed her as an NHS angel.

Bosses at the Trust said Fiona began working with the organisation in 2007 and has held many different roles since then.

In 2019, she began her latest role, working as a community staff nurse.

A special friend to many, Fiona is also a beloved daughter, sister, auntie, great auntie, niece and cousin.

Her sister Sarah Anderson spoke of her family’s pride in Fiona’s hard work, remembering her as someone who cared for those in need and ‘died doing what she loved’.

Her sister said: "We are incredibly proud of Fiona, she died doing what she loved, working for the NHS and caring for those in need.

“Always in our hearts and never forgotten."

And now a Go Fund Me page has been set up with the aim of raising £3,000 to help support Fiona’s family.

Set up by Rachael Claire Edmundson, the page said: “Fiona worked for the NHS for 10 years, she sadly lost her life on April 26, 2020, to the coronavirus.

“I'm asking all of my friends and family to donate some money to help her family.

“Every donation will be very appreciated.”

In just three days the community has rallied around the family to raise over £2,700 from around 150 donors.

A number of tributes to the much-loved nurse have also been left on the page which said Fiona was someone with a’ big heart’ who ‘cannot be replaced.’

One tribute said: “She brought the light to any room.”

While another message read: “Fiona was a breath of fresh air and always made me laugh.”
