Now it has collected more than £5,600, with supporters leaving a host of messages in tribute to Alex.

A post on the page says: “We have set up this page to raise funds for a memorial for our good friend Alex Liddle, he was a loving family man who cherished his family, girlfriend and friends.

“This money will go towards keeping his memory alive forever.

“He will always be in our hearts.

“We love you Alex.”

Inquiries to try and find Alex were launched by Durham Constabulary following a report he had gone missing from his home.

After officers from Northumbria Police found Alex, a spokesperson for the force said it did not believe there was any third person involvement in his death.

The force said a report was being prepared for the coroner and sent its thoughts to Alex’s family.
