A new collection point for the organisation has been set up at the interchange, allowing bus and Metro commuters and anyone visiting the city centre to make donations.
Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, is running the collection all this week to help families who are struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic.

Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “The focus of our food bank collections will focus on Sunderland this week. We’re at Park Lane interchange and all donations will go to a local food bank.
“Metro is right at the heart of the communities it serves so this collection is the least that we can do to help people at this time of national emergency.
“This will aid people in the most deprived areas, many of who are struggling even more due to the devastating effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
