Five people stranded on broken down boat rescued by Sunderland Coastguard

Sunderland Coastguard came to the rescue of five people who were left stranded when their boat broke down off the coast of Roker.

The Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team was called into action at 5pm on Saturday, July 18, following reports that five people were stuck on a pleasure boat that had broken down just north of Roker Pier.

Coastguard Rescue Officers kept the boat under observation until Sunderland RNLI Atlantic lifeboat arrived to tow the vessel back to Sunderland Marina.

Sunderland Coastguard was called to assist a broken down boat off the coast of Roker.

Sunderland Coastguard confirmed the breakdown was caused by a flat battery and urged boat owners to check that electrical systems are in good order before setting out to sea.

The RNLI Advice on Board Scheme is recommended as a means of checking that on board safety measures and equipment are up to standard. Details can be obtained from your local RNLI station or online.

In all coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
