Commercial sellers Christie & Co have listed The Hendon Grange Hotel for sale. A property which they say could continue as a pub under new ownership or become something new for the city.

The pub is located on the busy Ocean Road, at the south of the River Wear in Grangetown, Sunderland over approximately 5,000 square foot of space.

The ground floor is in an 'L' shape, the estate agent’s description says, with a separate area to the rear which, at the moment, is used for weekly meetings of the darts and domino teams. There’s also a pool table and a sports area.

The first floor also has an function room, which is often used for music events. Both floors have toilets.

Currently, the pub’s opening hours are 6pm to 12pm on Monday and Friday, 7pm to 11pm on Tuesday and Thursday and 11am to 12pm on weekends but the current owner is now looking to retire after 20 years of business. The pub is popular with residents and guests and hosts three local football teams so its often busy with custom.

The owner's access to accommodation is from the ground floor which leads to two floors of living areas which consists of a living room, kitchen, bathroom and four bedrooms.

And the business’ potential customer base is set to expand as there are plans to build 300 homes on a plot of land nearby.

In a statement released in the sales information, a spokesperson for Christie & Co said: “We feel that the property would be suitable to continue as a pub and develop the food sales. Alternatively it would suit other uses, including residential or mixed use retail.

“Our clients have built up a strong and reputable client base over the years.

“The introduction of commercial and food led sales would be a useful addition for a new operator.”

The property remains listed on Rightmove for £250,000.
