Pd Roscoe started life as a family pet – but went off to start a new life with Northumbria Police as his family recognised his energy, intelligence and potential.

The hard-working hound was thrust into greatness as he began his training alongside force dog handler Pc Donna Foley.

“It was a challenge at times but thanks to handlers Foley and Welch and the rest of the supportive section, Roscoe is now living up to his full potential and I’m certain he’ll prove a big asset to the team for years to come.

“We’ll make sure to keep his former family and the public updated on all his achievements – of which I’m sure there will be many.”

It was a difficult decision for Roscoe’s family to part ways with him, but it proved to be the right decision for the dog who is destined for an important job.

The nearly two-year-old Belgium Malinois will specialise in searching for people and property, as well as tracking and detaining fleeing criminals.

He will now continue to work and live with handler Pc Welch and his family.

His former owners added: “We can’t explain how proud we are of Roscoe, he is a very special pooch.

“We would like to thank Paul for seeing his potential and giving him the chance to achieve everything that he has. Good luck for the future Roscoe!”
