Family of nightclub attack victim Jordan Bell thank those who tried to save him as funeral arrangements are finalised

Jordan Bell, from Southwick, was left with severe injuries and was found lying outside a Holmeside nightclub on the night of Friday, July 10, with people flagging down police to raise the alarm.

The 27-year-old, known as Jord, was taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery and remained in a critical condition, but died on Friday, July 24, surrounded by his family.

A 26-year-old man from the city has been charged with his manslaughter.

This Friday, August 21, at 9.30am, Jordan’s family and friends will gather at Sunderland Crematorium for his funeral.

He leaves parents Andy and Tracy, sister Sarah, grandmother Jean, and was the grandson of late grandparents Ron, Pat and Sylvia.

Ahead of the service, his family said: “He was loved by everyone he met and was very well thought of by his employer and work colleagues.

"We would like to thank the emergency services involved.

"The teams in the Royal Victoria Infirmary were absolutely amazing and compassionate.

“We have been supported by countless agencies and friends and family.

"They have all been amazing.”

A GoFundMe page first set up to support Jordan in the wake of the suspected attack and then to help Jordan’s family has raised more than £1,000 and has now closed.

The page, launched by Jordan’s workmates, said he was “a lovely quiet man" and added they had been devastated by his death, adding: “Our love thoughts and prayers go out to his loving family at this sad time.”

Dominic Robson, 26, of Birchwood in South Hylton, has been charged with manslaughter.

He was released on conditional bail, which includes residing at his home address, a 7pm to 7am curfew and not to contact prosecution witnesses, after his first appearance to face the charge on Monday, July 27, at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

He is due to appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, August 24.
