The Festival of Light returns in a brand new location for 2019, moving in to Sunderland city centre.
And ahead of the opening at 4pm on Thursday, November 21, we’ve spoken to Karen Makepeace about what the festival has to offer.
What can you expect to see at the Festival of Light?

Hide AdKaren says: “On offer we have some brilliant lighting installations. We have some spectacular illuminated street theatre performers, a glow in the dark performance show – circus skills that are glow in the dark.
“We have Christmas shows that will be held in our cosy tipi – that will be Superhero and Snow Queen saving Christmas so there’s lots of things for people to get involved in.
“The stand out attractions include a hot air balloon that you can sit in and get your picture taken – as well as a horse and carriage.
“We have a gorgeous Christmas train too.
“Not forgetting we do have Smurf our therapy pony that families can come along, meet and learn about what Smurf does.”
How long is the event on for?

Hide AdThe Festival of Light will run from 4pm to 9pm every Thursday to Sunday until December 22. Last entry is at 8pm.
How much do tickets cost?
Tickets cost £3 each and children under the age of two go free. If you buy more than three tickets you get a discounted price.
