Emotional message left in sand on Roker beach for Time to Talk Day

On the morning of Thursday, February 6 – Time to Talk Day – Sunderland resident Brian Priest was out with his drone at Roker beach.

While taking some photos, a woman told him that she had created some sand art further down the coast.

When he saw the message, he captured some photos before the tide swept it away.

The sand art said: “She was drowning, but nobody saw her struggle...”

Unfortunately, Brian didn’t get the woman’s name but he would like her to see his photographs of her work.

He told the Echo: “It was a very meaningful message and I was shocked when I saw it and it sunk in what it meant.

“I lost my fiancé just over a year ago and she suffered with a very bad heart.

“She sadly passed away six months after a heart transplant so the message meant a lot to me.”

The message in the sand used the hashtags: timetochange and timetotalk.

Time to Talk Day 2020 is taking place to encourage the public to talk about mental health. There is an understanding that it can often be awkward to talk about this but that it doesn't have to be. To find out more about the day visit www.time-to-change.org.uk.
