Autism care home marks the 50th anniversary of Glastonbury with their own garden festival

A Sunderland care home ran by Education and Services for people with Autism have marked the 50th anniversary of Glastonbury by holding its own festival.

A care home for people with Autism has celebrated the 50th anniversary of Glastonbury by holding their own festival in the garden.

Numbers 7 and 8 The Cedars in Ashbrooke are managed by the autism charity Education and Services for people with Autism and staff have been working hard to replicate the world famous festival.

Care home manager Amanda Morris has even recreated the Glastonbury sign and tower for the event, which took place on Wednesday, June 24.

Amanda said: “It has been a difficult time for our service users and our staff have been trying to keep people busy and occupied.

“We have an amazing garden and those who we care for love music and discos so we thought why not hold our own Glastonbury festival.

“I made our own Glastonbury sign and tower. Each letter of the sign took four hours to make.”

Amanda added: “It has been a difficult time for the staff as well so this is their chance to have some fun too. They are getting dressed up to perform their favourite acts.”

Glastonbury was set to take place this weekend but had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
