A19 southbound in County Durham reopens after car hits central reservation

A White Corsa hit the central reservation and became caught on the crash barrier shortly before 3pm this afternoon, Wednesday, February 5.

The outside lane of the dual carriageway was closed for around an hour. A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We received a report of one car in the central reservation with smoke coming from the vehicle.

"One appliance from Peterlee dealt with the incident. The call came in at 15:00 and the stop call came in at 15:33.

"No injuries to report."

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "We received a report just before 3pm that a white Vauxhall Corsa had mounted the central reservation.

"The driver suffered very minor injuries. Fire and ambulance services both attended as a precaution."

A Highways Agency spokeswoman confirmed the outside lane had been cleared around 4pm.
