Sheila Quigley loved and championed her home of Houghton – and on her funeral day, its people lined the streets to return the honour.

The 72-year-old crime writer was an ambassador for her town, campaigning to keep its services running and supporting its community groups, with her passion for literature and reading spread across Sunderland and beyond.
