POLICE are appealing for information after a pensioner had her purse stolen by a robber as she walked home from a shop.

The 66-year-old woman was making her way back from the convenience store in Hetton’s Surrey Street on Saturday at 7.20pm, when the man struck.

He pushed the woman into a fence and ran off through an alleyway near the shop with her purse containing a quantity of cash.

Police said the victim was left very shaken, but unhurt by her ordeal.
