MANAGERS and staff working for a Government agency will get more than £7.5million in redundancy packages.
The 291 employees at One NorthEast, due to close down next year, will receive an average of £26,000.
The pay-outs have been criticized by the Tax Payers’ Alliance.
Spokeswoman Emma Boon said: “Taxpayers will be shocked at the incredible amounts of money spent on redundancies at this unaccountable quango.
“Most departing employees are legally entitled to receive a payment but the sums at One North East suggest some very generous golden-goodbyes.
The figures were revealed via the Freedom of Information Act.
A One NorthEast spokesman said: “Every member of staff, regardless of seniority, is subject to the same terms and conditions of the Civil Service Compensation Scheme as amended by Government late last year.
“Employees losing their jobs are entitled to redundancy payments, and we have strictly adhered to the terms and conditions of the scheme during a very difficult and worrying time for all One North East staff.”
