A power fault on the Tyne and Wear Metro has led to passengers slamming the service on social media.
The Metro service tweeted shortly after 7am today to inform passengers of a power supply problem - meaning there are no trains currently running between Pelaw and Brockley Whins.
Metro tickets are being accepted on Go North East bus services 5, 27 and X66, the tweet confirmed - but some passengers have complained about being stranded in the cold without any further information. The bus replacement 900 is also running.
At around 8am Twitter user @EnigmaGirl81, said: "Absolutely disgusting you haven't updated anyone for an hour. People have bought tickets and are absolutely freezing."
She added that her partner has been forced to lose a day's pay due to the service.
Others complained about the bus replacement service queue at Brockley Whins. Shannon Hodge shared an image of the line on Twitter, and added: "This is the bus replacement queue at Brockley Whins, with no information from @My_Metro."
An earlier tweet said: "The line closures aren't even that frustrating, it's the lack of information or replies to any enquiries @My_Metro."
A spokesman for Metro confirmed that the stretch of line affected is managed by Network Rail, and that staff from the company were in the process of carrying out repairs and investigating the problem.
He said: "We are sorry for the disruption caused by the power supply issue.
"The section of line to Sunderland is managed by Network Rail and they are looking into the cause.
"We have ticket acceptance on local bus services in the affected area."
Services are running as normal between South Hylton and Brockley Whins, he added.
