WEARSIDE MP Sharon Hodgson has congratulated a Sunderland company on its 40th anniversary in the city in the House of Commons.

The Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West laid down a Commons Early Day Motion, noting Grundfos’ four decades in the city and praising the company’s commitment to community involvement.

Early Day Motions (EDMs) are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. They allow MPs to draw attention to an event or cause. MPs register their support by signing individual motions.

The motion was backed by Jeremy Corbyn, Labour MP for Islington North and paid particular tribute to the company’s sponsorship of the recent city-wide Work Discovery Week, which linked students with local businesses.

Lee Carling, general manager at Grundfos’ Ferryboat Lane site in Castletown, thanked the MP for her support: “We’re really grateful to Sharon for taking the time to note our anniversary in such a meaningful way. The work we do in Sunderland communities is really important to us and it’s great to be able to give something back.”
