A PARALYMPIC torch is coming to the region for a celebration in support of the London 2012 Paralympic Games later this month.

Beamish Museum will host a torch lit from the English Paralympic flame in London earlier that day and visitors can enjoy Paralympic sports demonstrations and taster sessions, such as wheelchair football, archery, cycling and boccia.

The evening will also feature a cultural showcase, including an exhibition of 1972 Olympic posters on loan from Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums and an interactive exhibit demonstrating how our bodies work during sport, activity, movement and rest.

The highlight of the night will be a parade of the flame, carried by inspirational young disabled people from the North East.

The free event takes place next Friday, from 5pm to 8pm.
